Here is a full breakdown of what I believe will happen with the Pittsburgh Steelers 2025 season, as an unapologetic and somewhat delusional fan.

Steelers are coming into the season with the newly acquired Aaron Rodgers. The man, the myth, the legend. After having a rather unceremonious ending to his New York Jets career, Rodgers looks to bounce back. With a new roster and loaded with talent on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, it is now up to Mike Tomlin to direct the change needed for newfound success. As a Steelers fan it has been over seven years since we have seen a playoff win. Rodgers was brought in by Omar Khan and Tomlin to win games. The belief in the building is the presence of winning now. Tomlin, of course, is famous for never having a losing season in his career as head coach.

This sadly does not mean much to the Steel Curtain. We want to see success and just sliding into the wildcard and losing each year is getting old. This is coupled with the aging talent on the defensive side of the ball. Cam Hayward is now at the ripe age of 36 going into his fifteen season. While, star edge-rusher T.J. Watt enters his ninth year in the league, at the age of thirty.

This is what presents some of the “win now” momentum. As the lifelong Steelers products start to age, so does the attitude of the fanbase.

The Steelers having the tenth hardest schedule according to the previous years records of combined teams does not install confidence. Aaron Rodgers had a slow start to his Jets campaign. Infamously tearing his achilles in his first game right after carrying out the American Flag onto Met Life Stadium. Once rehabbed his slow start continued onto last season. Where he put up respectable numbers (63.0 CMP%, 3,897 YDS, a 28-11 TD-INT ratio, and finally a passer rating of 90.5). Even with all of these numbers the Jets floundered to the end of the season finishing 5-12. Overall, his personal success was limited and labeled as a bust. Truly due to the team’s record and his injury. If the Jets had made the playoffs with those numbers, the world would be praising his joy.

As Steeler’s fans we hope that Tomlin can reel in some of Rodger’s extracurricular activities, while maximizing his onfield productivity. Blatantly I am not too confident on the season. I do believe that we will have a winning record, just from the examples of the past. We always seem to find a way to beat the Ravens at least once in the regular season, while also squeaking one out against the Bengals. Overall, within the AFC North, I would bet money on the fact that we will also have a winning record there. We somehow also seem to win the games that we should not, while losing the games that we shouldn’t. A great example of this comes from the loss in the snow last year to the Browns, while we barely beat the Ravens twice in the regular season. There is something in the air for the Steelers that does not translate to the post season. Maybe Aaron Rodgers and a run game will change fate.

Another main component that will have to evolve is the run game. The Steelers run game has been atrocious in the past. Even with a suitable running back in Najee Harris, it has always seemed to be below average. Same of course, can be said about the passing game as well. Russ and Fields seemed to generate slightly above average offense. This does not cut it, in today’s dynamically changing league that favors high-flying explosive offenses more and more.

Overall, I think that the Steelers will finish 10-7, another year of mediocrity. I do not think that the singing of Rodgers will do much for the post season hopes of the fans. I truly believe that he will play well enough for us to get there, but have us fall short in the wildcard. The defense will continue to be elite, but with a lackluster running game, we will continue to tire them out too early in the season. Resulting injuries and fatigue to add up. Also hurt by the bye week being so early in the season. Our players will have to remain “fresh” and “dynamic” throughout the last thirteen weeks of the season. I will always hope for the best, but will continue to be pessimistic about my favorite team in the north.
